In medieval times, Erbalunga began exporting wine and olive oil from the 11th century, becoming more important as a trading centre than Ajaccio or Bastia. As nobles from Genoa and Pisa vied between themselves for financial control over Corsica, a fortress was built at Erbalunga.
Along the quays, the houses with their colourful facades polished by the wind from the sea are huddled together, overlooking the terraces of restaurants and cafés.
Throughout the year, this lively seaside resort, where it is pleasant to linger over a drink on the quayside, lives to the rhythm of the cafe owners, the yachtsmen and the fishermen who gather their nets at the first light of day. A typical and very lively district, between small yachts at anchor and polychrome fishing boats, which invites you to stroll around at any time.
Close to Bastia, easily accessible by bus or on foot, very pleasant beaches allow holidaymakers without a vehicle to enjoy the pleasures of swimming.
